The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was Germany’s primary single-engine fighter throughout World War II and one of the most advanced aircraft when it first flew in 1935. It featured a closed cockpit, retractable landing gear, and an all-metal monocoque design. Fast, agile, and deadly, the Bf 109 served in every major theatre of the war and was flown by many of history’s top-scoring fighter aces.
